Summary Background Myiasis is an infestation of neglected open wounds by fly larvae. Global warming, related climate changes, and increased traveling in tropical countries may contribute to the worldwide diffusion new species. Common risk factors for myiasis are advanced age, poor hygiene, malnourishment, social isolation, diabetes, cancer, peripheral artery disease. The aim this study was review characteristics cases reported Europe. Methods A narrative cutaneous performed using PubMed, EMBASE, Web Science database, search terms “human,” “myiasis,” “cutaneous myiasis,” “maggot,” “Europe,” “wound,” with combination “AND” “OR.” In addition, hospital charts were reviewed add personal experience literature review. Results Overall, 52 articles, both single case reports series reporting myiasis, found medical past two decades. total 64 patients living Europe identified, whom 36% had wound myiasis. addition review, we report a male patient who presented within deep scalp ulcer occurring after radiotherapy basal cell carcinoma.
